Piesa este compusă de Ed Sheeran împreună cu vechii săi colaboratori Johnny McDaid, Fred Gibson și Sam Roman (Romans). Singe-ul este extras de pe albumul"=", lansat de artist pe 29 octombrie 2021! „The Joker And The Queen" marchează a cincea colaborare a celor doi artiști. Anterioarele melodii sunt extrase de pe albumele lui Taylor Swift: "Everything Has Changed" (2012) și "End Game" (2017), urmate de două melodii ce au apărut pe LP-ul "Red (Taylor's Version)".
